Kathy Warnes joined The Lakeshore Guardian in 2021 as a contributing writer for our Sunken History & Maritime Treasures column and is an avid researcher who enjoys sharing her voyage of discovery with Guardian readers.

Kathy was born and raised in the maritime shadow of the Detroit River and the Great Lakes in Ecorse, Michigan, a place known as a steel town, Great Lakes Engineering site, and a wild and raucous Prohibition town. She started writing poetry in the fifth grade and is now a writer/historian, though she still loves crafting poetry, especially about the Great Lakes.

Kathy also researches and writes content for a website called Meandering Michigan History as well as a maritime history website called Magic Masts and Sturdy Ships. In addition, she serves as a historian for the Ashtabula Maritime and Surface Transportation Museum and the Conneaut Historical Society.
